How to install and configure the Matterhorn Dropshipping app in Shopify?
If you don't have a Shopify store yet, check out our guide on how to set it up: How to set up a Shopify store.
If you run a store on Shopify and want to expand your offer with products available from the Matterhorn wholesale, use our Matterhorn Dropshipping app. With it, you can easily import products to your store and start selling in a dropshipping model. In this guide, we will show you how to install the app and configure the product import.
To install the app, follow these steps:
Log in to your Shopify store – go to the Shopify Admin page and log in to your account.
Open the Shopify App Store – click on the "Apps" menu on the left side, and then select "Shopify App Store".
Search for the app – type "Matterhorn Dropshipping" in the search box and select our app from the search results or directly use this link: Matterhorn Dropshipping on Shopify App Store.
Click "Install"
Authorize the connection – you will be redirected to your Shopify store admin panel. Click "Install app" to grant it the necessary permissions.
Once the installation is complete, an account will be automatically created in the Matterhorn wholesale with billing information taken from your Shopify settings. You will be taken to the app page, where you can configure basic parameters, such as:
Markup – determine by what percentage you want to increase the prices of products before adding them to your store.
Appearance of product descriptions – decide whether you want to use the default descriptions or customize them to your sales style.
Product categories – choose which products should be imported to your store.
In the following steps, we will discuss each of these options in detail and show you how to best tailor the app to your needs.
At this stage, you can also decide in which sizing standard you want to present your products – the supported standards are European standard and US standard.
- Min inventory level: Specifies what the minimum inventory level should be for products available in Matterhorn for the product to be imported to your store. This helps to reject products that are already end-of-collection items to avoid stockouts and not promote products that will soon run out.
- Active products right after import: This setting makes the products imported by the app immediately visible to your customers. If you plan to edit their descriptions, leave this option turned off – you will be able to activate them later manually in the Shopify admin panel, and only then will your customers be able to see and purchase them.
- Add size table to description: This option adds a size table to the product description. We recommend adding this table, but if you want to present size tables differently in your store template, you can turn this option off. Then the app will only insert textual descriptions of these products during the import.
- Add Matterhorn Tags: Our app adds special tags to imported products for easier product management, which contain useful information to help manage the offer. The tags will include information about the product category in the Matterhorn wholesale, its unique ID, product type, etc.
- Add Metafields to product: In Shopify, there are special fields for additional product data called Metafields. They can later be used in many applications for organizing products or displaying this information on product pages. Metafields imported by our app, like tags, contain additional information about the products such as category, ID, brand name, and product type. It is worth importing them to have the ability to utilize this data in the future on product pages or to facilitate product management. More information about Metafields can be found at https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/custom-data/metafields
- Product Id in Title: If you enable this option, products will have the product IDs assigned by Matterhorn included in their names. For example, a product could be named "Dress 22333 Numoco" – if you do not want this ID to be part of the product name, you can disable this option.
- Brand name in Title: The Matterhorn wholesale is a distributor of many clothing brands. However, some sellers do not want to display the names of these brands in their stores – disabling this option will cause the brand name not to be visible in the product name.
- Translate variant name: (option for stores in a language other than English). This setting allows you to decide whether the variant name for color and size should be the English words "Color" and "Size" or the translation for a specific language.
Matterhorn sells products in the dropshipping model according to its price list – you will see the purchase prices for each product. Here you can set how much more expensive the products should be in your online store and how retail prices should be rounded. Remember that the app operates on prices without taxes included, so the final price for the customer will depend on the tax settings you implement in your store.
- Default markup: this is the default markup on the purchase price that the app will add for the product sold in your store. It is up to you what markup you want to sell the products with. Sometimes it is worth applying a higher price markup and lowering shipping costs for the customer – if you are inexperienced in setting margins, we suggest creating a business plan that allows you to estimate how much you should earn on products to have a budget for marketing activities and other costs. Look for information on this topic online and on our blog. Here you only set the default markup – you will be able to change it for individual products or entire imported brands from our offer.
Example of markup calculation: Purchase price in Matterhorn 100 EUR, markup 30% - final net price is 100 + 30% = 130 EUR.
- Add fixed amount to price: This setting allows you to add a fixed value to the previously calculated price. For example, this may be an amount of a few euros covering some fixed costs related to each order.
Example of markup calculation: Purchase price in Matterhorn 100 EUR, markup 30%, fixed amount 5 EUR - final net price is 100 + 30% + 5 EUR = 135 EUR.
- Round prices: This setting allows for several rounding options to make the prices more attractive to your customers if their price after markup calculation would have unclear amounts.
- Update prices: A setting that optionally allows you to disable price updates in your store if the product cost in Matterhorn changes. Use this option cautiously, as turning it off may cause you to lose control over product prices. By default, the app will recalculate the retail price to the new one and update it in your store whenever the purchase price changes.
In the Matterhorn wholesale offer, each color variant of a product is represented as a separate product with a separate ID. However, in many cases, sellers prefer to present color variants of products as their variants. In this configuration step, you can decide how the app should behave for products with multiple color variants.
- Color name to variant: this option determines whether you want the color name to be visible as a product variant. Otherwise, only the sizes of the products will be visible in the options.
- Group color products: this setting will cause the app to add additional colors of the same product model as its variants when this option is enabled; when this option is disabled, each color will be represented as a separate product in your store.
- Import other colors of product: This option allows for the automatic addition of all color variants of products to the import when you select a product for import. This way, you won't miss other color variants when choosing products to import to your store. If you want to manually select which product variants you intend to sell, leave this option turned off.
Summary:
This concludes the app configuration stage – from this moment, you can start selecting products that will appear in your store. We will describe this process in the following steps of this guide. Remember that you can always return to the app settings by clicking on the Settings tab within our app.
